Texas A&M

In the fall of 1876, the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas opened its doors to students. Over the years, the name of our institution has changed to Texas A&M University to better reflect our expanding role as a leader in research, public service, and the education of future leaders of the world. The initials ‘A’ and ‘M’ are a link to our past, no longer representing our university’s curriculum. We have grown to include not only agriculture and engineering, but business, education, geosciences, liberal arts, medicine, science, and veterinary medicine. Our university’s enrollment includes approximately 45,000 scholars studying for degrees in these academic colleges. Our strong traditions and commitment to diversity make our campus exceptional both academically and culturally.

Memorial Student Center (MSC)

The issue of a need for a centralized student union was proposed in March of 1946 when the university commissioned the A&M system architect, Carleton W. Adams to commence plans. Today, Texas A&M's student union is housed in the Memorial Student Center. The union serves and represents the A&M students, former students, faculty, and friends of the college. The union is a memorial to Aggies that gave their lives in service of our country past and future. As a sign of respect, all are asked to remove their hats while inside.

MSC CAMAC

The Memorial Student Center Committee for the Awareness of Mexican American Culture (MSC CAMAC) is a student organization that focuses on uniting students from diverse backgrounds to establish an appreciation for various Hispanic cultures on the Texas A&M campus and Bryan/College Station community. We motivate the community to learn about these cultures through informative programs. Our committee engages in cultural and educational events, as well as in recruitment efforts for high school and transfer students. We also offer student leadership opportunities within the Memorial Student Center for our members.

SCOLA

In 1988, MSC CAMAC hosted our first annual Student Conference on Latino Affairs.

Our goal is to create a platform in which students from diverse backgrounds are able to unite and discuss issues facing the Latino population as well as to promote methods of empowerment. SCOLA invites university students from all over the nation to attend.
